Tax Update: Pensions & Inheritance Tax

From 6 April 2027, most unused pension funds and pension death benefits will be included within an individual’s estate for Inheritance Tax purposes.

HMRC has now released further technical details on how the new rules will operate, including information sharing between personal representatives and pension scheme administrators, withholding of funds, and payment of IHT.

This could have a significant impact on estate planning and the way pensions are considered when advising clients.
